The councillor is said to have angered the Mashonaland East party bosses by refusing guests to the vice president’s function access to game meat.

Sources in the area say the local Zanu PF leadership wants Councillor Patrick Chidhakwa who is the Marondera RDC chairperson expelled from Zanu PF for undermining Mphoko’s visit.

Mphoko was in Marondera East early this month to commission the Machiki Irrigation Scheme and Chidhakwa was reportedly ordered to ensure that the council donates game meat for the event.

“Councillor Chidhakwa gave different reasons why the council could not give game meat for the event,” said a source close to the developments.

“The first reason was that there was tall grass during this time of the year, making it difficult to locate the animals.

“The second reason was that Marondera RDC was in partnership with one Deven Worswick in a wildlife project and council could not, therefore, make a decision without consulting him.”

However, what has incensed the Zanu PF officials and councillors was that a week before Mphoko’s visit, Chidhakwa was a guest of honour at a field day in his ward where Impala meat was served to guests.

Chidhakwa is also being accused of causing divisions in Zanu PF by de-campaigning the sitting MP, Jeremiah Chiwetu ahead of the next elections in 2018.

Chidhakwa is claimed to have an interest in the Marondera East seat and is allegedly working on discrediting Chiwetu ahead of the vote.

Efforts to get in touch with Chidhakwa were unsuccessful on Monday.
