Most of the residents who are former Ziscosteel workers told NewZimbabwe.com that they were not happy with how mayor Fred Kapuya and town clerk Elizabeth Gwatipedza were running the town.

“The city fathers should just resign for incompetence,” James Moyo said.

Another resident who only identified herself as Madhuve said she feared for her children’s health after Kwekwe City Council disconnected water supplies to the town.

She blamed the city fathers for the town’s water problems accusing them of failing to prioritise service delivery.

Sydney Dzvairo said Local Government minister Saviour Kasukuwere should intervene to help solve the crisis faced by Redcliff.

Kwekwe mayor Matenda Madzoke said his council disconnected water supplies to Redcliff after the latter had failed to settle a $9 million debt owed to the city.

He accused the municipality of being insincere by when it paid a paltry $1,000 towards clearing the debt.

Kapuya was not available for comment as he was said to be in Bulawayo for the Trade Fair.

He was however quoted before as saying 95 percent of Redcliff residents were in serious debt in terms of bills to be paid to the authority.

He said as a result, the municipality is also failing to settle the water debt with Kwekwe.
