Saviour: we can help ex-PM to build own pad

MUTARE: Zanu PF National Political Commissar Saviour Kasukuwere says MDC is a party of lodgers as evidenced by its leader Morgan Tsvangirai whom he said was still ‘squatting’ in a government house years after the end of his tenure as Prime Minister during the inclusive government in 2013.

The local government minister made these remarks at the weekend while addressing hundreds of fleeced home seekers from Federation Housing Cooperative at Chirovakamwe primary school in Dangamvura high density suburb.

Kasukuwere’s visit followed a petition which was handed by home seekers to Zanu PF Chikanga-Dangamvura MP, Esau Mupfumi, over reports of double allocation of stands, theft and rampant corruption by consortium members.

Federation Housing Cooperative was condemned by health experts as residents are living without access to clean water and proper ablution facilities while the Mutare city council is sitting on a court order to demolish the settlement.

“We cannot let our people suffer because of crocks and corrupt land barons. The UDCOPR will take over to ensure that your funds are put into good use. Our mandate as Zanu PF is to provide housing to our people.

“MDC-T is a party of lodgers, its leader Tsvangirai is a lodger himself. He is staying in our property. He should come and we allocate him a residential stand to build his own house,” said Kasukuwere.

The Urban Development Corporation (UDCORP) is a government entity mandated to ensure provision of housing.

The minister told home seekers that Zanu PF was working towards reclaiming all wards in all urban areas, heaping all the mess in cities and towns to “corrupt MDC-T”.

“We are working towards improving the provision of water and sewer reticulation to improve lives of our people in urban areas. We cannot have boreholes in towns, ko kumusha vozodiii,” said Kasukuwere.

He said UDCORP will soon move into the city to take over from consortiums and design a new township in Gimbok to accommodate homeless party youths.

“Youths should get residential stands. I am sending UDCORP soon and the Gutus of MDC can make noise but we are not going back on giving land to our people,” said Kasukuwere.

He gave Mutare City Council a six month ultimatum to solve the issue of water crisis in Dangamvura, saying any excuses will not be tolerated.

“We want order at the local authority. We don’t want people who divert rates for personal issue. That has to stop. Councillors, you have to wake up and start to work for the people who voted for you into office,” said Kasukuwere.

He rubbished the much awaited MDC demonstration against poverty and unemployment scheduled for June 25 in Mutare, saying it was a desperate attention seeking move by the opposition.

“Who are you demonstrating against and for what reason? We are saying 2018 Bob mu office. Zanu PF will rule the country until donkeys grow horns,” said Kasukuwere.

Speaking during the same event, Mupfumi said there was rampant corruption in the allocation of stands by consortiums and UDCORP should intervene as a matter of urgency to save home seekers from being swindled.

He pleaded with Kasukuwere to parcel out residential stands to restive and unemployed youths ahead of the 2018 general elections. Zanu PF promised to create 2, 2 million jobs for youths under ZimAsset and since then many companies in the city have closed shop rendering hundreds jobless.

“We have state land minister that should be allocated to our youths. We thank you for bringing sanity at Mutare city council,” said Mupfumi.

Home seekers told New Zimbabwe.com that they will not pin their hopes on politicians, saying the matter has dragged for years with no solution in sight.

“Remember we are dealing with politicians and elections are upon us. They may say something in public but it might never be implemented. All we need is God`s intervention because we have suffered enough,” said Kelvin Madziya, 38, from Gimbok.
