Government sources told Zimbo Today.com that this law, which would come into effect as soon as August this year, would allow only institutions—both public and private to own a flag, but not private individuals. This would apply to all flags regardless of size and material it is made from.
“Once the ban comes into effect, all citizens would be given a deadline by which they should surrender all flags after which it would become a serious offence for anyone to be found in possession of the national flag,†an official in the ministry of Justice, where the draft law is been worked, told Zimbo Today.com. “This would include having flags on or in cars as well as those that citizens have, of late, been using to drape themselves,†she said, adding that offenders would be jailed for upto three years.
The move has certainly been necessitated by Pastor Evan Mawarire and his #ThisFlag movement who have teamed up with another movement, #Tajamuka, to mobilise people against President Mugabe’s misrule. ZANU-PF has already started banning its members from using the social media as it tries its best to keep its followers in the dark.

We Zimbabweans have the most stupid leaders in the world. Pathetic morons without a vision. They lack that IQ to rationally think brighter than a 5th grader. These stupid old men think they are still fighting a war and now us Zimbabweans are the bad guys to our own leaders they must think we are Rhodesians in their faces because of the way they hate us. Well i am ready for war again if it means taking back what belongs to us. Fuck the Zimbabwean system and that one scrotum old man! We wish death on you! You are no longer a hero but a pathetic fool! Go fuck yourself and Grace! Karma will come devour you! And we will piss on your grave, old man!
how utterly pathetic has this government got that they want to ban people carrying around their own countries flag . last kicks of a dying horse . the end is in sight people , rise up and take back what is yours . bob your cunt !
Nobody has a private patent ownship of the zimbabwean flag. It is collectively owned by zimbabweans. So nobody has the right to deny other citizens ownership of the flag. This is a mark of our citizenship. People must fight this very ignorant and stupid law. Tinorambidzwa flag. Kuti zvidii?
I recall clearly South Africa in the bad old days. The Big Crocodile, (then) state president PW Botha, also banned the use of the national flag other than for what he had dictated. At the time, we loved to quote the Sesotho idiom: “ha e shwa, e a raha” (=when it dies, it kicks). We knew then that it was the last kick of a dying horse. Soon after, he was no longer in power. How does this ban on the popular use of the Zimbabwean flag now take me back down memory lane…
Should the ban on carrying the Zimbabwe Flag succeed,i suggest that for those inside Zimbabwe, carry a White CLOTH 2 mtrs by 1 mtr.for the same purpose during demonstrations.Since #This Flag encourages peacifull demonstrations, the WHITE CLOTH has always symbolised PEACE. We hope the carrying of the flag will not be banned, but knowing how Zanupf operates, your guess is as good as mine.
