At Mbare Magistrates Court, 25 residents were set free on Saturday 09July 2016 after they were ordered to pay $100 bail while four juveniles who were part of the group arrested in some high-densitysuburbs in Harare were granted free bail. Only prominent pro-democracy campaigner Linda Musarira remained in custody as authorities needed to confirm the existence of a warrant of arrest allegedly issued against her by the Mutare Magistrates Court over an undisclosed matter.
In Beitbridge, Austin Nyakupinda appeared in court on Saturday 09 July2016 charged with committing public violence. Prosecutors alleged that Nyakupinda, a student at a college in Harare,who was arrested on Thursday 07 July 2016 and charged with contravening Section 36 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23, was part of a group of people who staged a protest at Beitbridge border post through barricading roads,vandalised traffic control lights, looted clothes, blankets, television sets and set ablaze a Zimbabwe Revenue Authority warehouse.
Nyakupinda will also endure the weekend in remand prison as he awaits the determination of his bail application scheduled to be considered on Monday 11 July 2016.
