The health centres in Garagua and Maco in Mossurize district, and Mussianhalo and Chuala in Barue district have been forced to close as continued military action by the Renamo fighters has led to residents fleeing for the relative safety of the district headquarters.
According to the Manica Provincial Health Director, Juvenaldo Amos, the closures directly affect five thousand people.
Amos was speaking on Wednesday during his provincial directorate’s Coordinating Council which is taking place at Cafumpe in the district of Gondola. He added that his staff have also had to abandon these areas until the situation returns to normal.
In addition to the closure of health centres, the presence of the Renamo militia has led to the closure of 52 schools with thousands of children missing classes. Schools have shut in parts of Barue, Mossurize and Manica districts.
According to the provincial education authority, the closures affect about 22,000 pupils and hundreds of teachers. Where possible, they are being relocated to other schools.Post published in: Africa News
