Yasin confirmed she had been struck once with a baton stick by a member of the riot police despite having identified herself as a journalist.
She said the assault occurred in the heat of skirmishes in the central business district after the police reportedly prevented the marchers from presenting a petition to the Minister of Home Affairs Ignatius Chombo protesting against police brutality.
Members of the riot police on 3 August 2016 assaulted journalists Lawrence Chimunhu, Christopher Mahove,Tendai Musiya, Haru Mutasa, Tsvangirai Mukwazhi , Bridget Mananavire and Imelda Mhetu as they covered demonstrations against the Zimbabwe government’s plans to introduce bond notes in the wake of the deteriorating socio-economic environment.
