ZRP barred from interrupting today’s march

HIGH Court Judge Lavender Makoni on 2 August 2016 interdicted the ZRP from interrupting a Transform Zimbabwe (TZ)march scheduled for 3 August 2016 after ZLHR lawyers successfully filed an urgent application.

police44On 19 July 2016,  TZ wrote to the police stating their intention to hold a peaceful march demonstrating against the introduction of bond notes but they were  discouraged from conducting the march.
Through their lawyers Sharon Hofisi and Kennedy Masiye, TZ filed an urgent application seeking to prevent the police from interfering with their intended peaceful demonstration. The police were saying the march would interrupt the follow of traffic in the Central Business District.
However, Justice Makoni  ordered ZRP not to interfere with TZ’s constitutional right to demonstrate and freedom to petition in a peaceful manner on 3 August 2016. The political organization was granted permission to march from the corner of Jason Moyo, along Julius Nyerere, into Robert Mugabe up to Simon Muzenda Street between 1000 and 1300hours.
