Cunning crocodile Emmerson Mnangagwa is only pretending to be a nice guy, yet evidence so far proves he is a big pretender who says one thing during the day and does the opposite at night. He promises free and fair elections, but turns a blind eye to electoral malpractices.
What Zimbabweans must know also is that the Western developed countries who Mnangagwa is trying to woe to invest in the country have said openly that everything will depend on the country holding free and fair elections, and so far Mnangagwa has proved he will not allow free and fair elections. He is allowing electoral intimidation to take place under his watch and allowing the perpetrators to get away with it.
Mnangagwa’s recent proclamation that the 2008 elections were free and fair betrays him more. If that is his standard for free and fair elections, he is just stupid and mad, and Zimbabwe does not want a stupid and made President. Every Zimbabwe who is of voting age this year knows every well of the UNDP envoy Achim Steiner is, among other things, wanting to find out how the UNDP can support the upcoming elections, so there is no excuse to say the country cannot afford to get the Diaspora to vote. I hope the opposition parties, civic society and all those positive minded people who will have the opportunity to meet with Steiner will talk about the need for resources to enable Diaspora vote, and will tell him that Mnangagwa is turning a blind eye to electoral intimidation being instigated by chief who be recently bribed with cars, and that Mnangagwa has been told by Zimbabweans living outside the country that they want to vote, but still does not want them to vote because he suspects the majority of them will vote for the opposition.
Zanu PF has been in power for thirty-eight years, and real change means a different party taking over. Progressive countries have regular change of governments, and why should Zimbabwe have the same ruling party for forty three years – thirty-eight years was a big mistake which should never be allowed again in Zimbabwe. To make matters worse, the person the party is fielding as its candidate is cruel, dull and old, and that is a dangerous combination. Mnangagwa knows very well that he is too old to rule because he has just retired Mariyawanda Nzuwah who is reportedly 65 years old, and he is ten years older than the person he has just retired. Let’s not waste our votes on the cruel, dull and old when there are better options.Post published in: Featured
