Chess Olympiads roar into life

The men’s team is being led by International Master Rodwell Makoto who is now based in South Africa, The officer and current National Chess champion Emerald Mushore is on board two while the former national champion Zhemba Jemmusse is playing on board three. The fourth board is occupied by Spencer Masango while Elisha Thabo is on reserve.

The ladies team is composed of WCM Kudzai Charinda, Colleta Wakuruwarehwa, WCM Christine Makwena, WCM Paidaishe Zengeni and Nomalungelo Matheis on reserve. The first games were not favourable for both teams but they gained momentum in round two. Men’s team won 3.5-0.5 Makoto, Mushore and Masango won their games while Zhemba drew his game and this boosted the team’s confidence. The ladies proved to be too strong for the Tunis ladies who they defeated 2.5-1.5. Kudzai Charinda drew her game while Colleta lost her game. WCMs Makwena and Paidaishe

Zengeni won their games to earn Zimbabwe two points for the win. Today the teams are expected to play some pulsating games. The men’s team will battle it out against Mexico who lost to Argentina which also defeated the Zimbabwe men’s team. All the best as the teams battle it out today.
