Crisis Alert: Police Arrest ARTUZ Leaders Again

Crisis Alert

Police have once again arrested members of the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union (ARTUZ) who are marching demanding that the government pays teachers’ salaries in US dollars as a way of cushioning them against the ever increasing cost of living following the current inflation that has eroded the buying power of the bond note.
On Saturday police in Macheke barricaded the ARTUZ march and arrested nine protestors and with the intervention of the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, yesterday they appeared before Marondera Magistrates Court where the court ruled that their arrest was illegal and that the union has a right to petition the government over their grievances.

Meanwhile the police are taking the arrested to Harare Central Police…

More details to follow….
