ICOD Zim is greatly concerned with the escalation of violence over the past 7 days and the disproportionate use of force by the security forces which has resulted in the loss of lives and several tens injured. The Government of Zimbabwe should uphold human rights and the rule of law as enshrined in the Constitution and ensure that perpetrators are brought to book.
Access to medical services should be granted to those in need. The continuous victimization, harassments of civilians’ and excessive use of force should stop. The ICOD Zimbabwe calls for government of Zimbabwe to exercise restraint when dealing with unarmed citizens and for the demilitarisation of all communities.
ICOD Zim recommends the following measures to be implemented by the government of Zimbabwe:
- All acts of injustices human rights violations should be investigated and culprits be brought to book.
- Survivors of political violence should be compensated.
- Harassment, persecution and arrest of civil society leaders should stop forthwith.
