Tuku a hero indeed, so is Morgan Tsvangirai

Dear Editor

Oliver Mtukudzi has sung his hit song Neria at Morgan Tsvangirai’s burial in Buhera.

There is no question about it – the late Dr. Oliver Mtukudzi deserves National Hero Status for the great work he did to inform, educate and entertain the world. In equal measure, the late Dr. Richard Morgan Tsvangirai deserved National Hero status. In fact, Dr. Richard Morgan Tsvangirai is a National Hero – one does not a Zanu PF Kangaroo meeting to pronounce one as a National Hero. Even if the Zanu PF Kangaroo meeting had not declared him a National hero, Dr. Mtukudzi would have remained one.

Without taking anything away from Dr. Mtukudzi, his conferment as National Hero by the Zanu PF Kangaroo Committee exposes their duplicity: Dr. Oliver Mtukudzi, a people conferred National Hero dies, and Zanu PF endorses the people choice and announces Dr. Mtukudzi as National Hero. Take a look one year back – Dr. Richard Morgan Tsvangirai dies, people confer him National Hero, but the Zanu PF Kangaroo Committee ignores the people’s choice.

This time round, Zanu PF would have wanted to spruce up its buttered image following the mayhem of the last couple of weeks, but let them be warned that that is not going to work.
