  • As of 20 November, a cumulative total of 8,230 suspected cholera cases, 1,301 laboratory confirmed cases (9,531 total cases) and 209 deaths have been reported in Zimbabwe by the Ministry of Health and Child Care.
  • The number of cases reported weekly continues to grow at an alarming pace with more than 650 suspected cases reported in the last week, which is likely to cause cross-border transmissions.
  • Case fatality is high both at national and district levels, and the community healthcare system is overwhelmed as the youth, elderly and women seem to be disproportionately affected.
  • The rainy season has started in Zimbabwe and should continue until May with very high risk of further spreading. Severe weather conditions, such as floods, cyclones, and droughts also make it harder to get clean water creating the perfect conditions for cholera to spread.
