Zimbabwe Vigil Diary 2nd December 2023

The freezing weather and travel problems because of train strike cancellations made getting to the Vigil today very difficult.

Thanks to the valiant few who made it: Munashe Madziyaswa, Ron Makoni and Ephraim Tapa. For photos: https://www.flickr.com/photos/zimbabwevigil/albums/72177720313126673.

Still, the vigil continued to draw sympathies and support from many passers-by, some of whom identified themselves as Zimbabweans. Encouragement was given and many saluted the valiant effort, once activists had provided updates on the Zimbabwe crisis. The acute signs of frustration on the absence of democracy and the ongoing state sponsored human rights abuses in Zimbabwe was noticeable.

  • The Vigil’s book ‘Zimbabwe Emergency’ is based on our weekly diaries. It records how events in Zimbabwe have unfolded as seen by the diaspora in the UK. It chronicles the economic disintegration, violence, growing oppression and political manoeuvring – and the tragic human cost involved. It is available at the Vigil. All proceeds go to the Vigil and our sister organisation the Restoration of Human Rights in Zimbabwe’s work in Zimbabwe. The book is also available from Amazon.
