The attached list of senators published by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) reveals the replacements chosen by the Tshabangu-led CCC.
He [Tshabangu] has taken the seat for CCC Matabeleland North, adding to the controversy surrounding the party.
Tshabangu’s move comes after he recalled numerous senators, Proportional Representatives, councillors, and members of parliament who were perceived to be loyal to President Nelson Chamisa.
Critics argue that Tshabangu’s actions indicate a calculated strategy to position himself and his girlfriends and friends within the parliament by replacing those aligned with Chamisa.
Among the newly appointed senators is advocate Phulu Kucaca Ivume, who replaces the recalled pro-Chamisa Bulawayo senator.
Kucaca previously served as part of Tshabangu’s legal team in the legal battle against President Chamisa and his recalled party members.
Meanwhile, in Masvingo Province, Sam Chapfudza has been chosen to replace Godfrey Madzikanda, who was recalled by Tshabangu for his support of President Chamisa.
Interestingly, Chapfudza had previously failed to secure a seat in the Masvingo urban parliament as an independent candidate in 2018 and had also been unsuccessful in representing CCC in 2023.
Nevertheless, Tshabangu has rewarded Chapfudza with a senatorial position.
Members of the CCC aligned with Tshabangu have been described as greedy and accused of being proxies for the ruling Zanu PF party.
Questions have been raised regarding the democratic processes used by Tshabangu, Tendai Biti, and Professor Welshman Ncube in selecting the replacements for the recalled CCC representatives.
Critics argue that Tshabangu and his team’s actions have ultimately led to the destruction of the CCC, with their decisions driven by personal benefits rather than the interests of the party and its supporters.
