He escaped alongside James Masunda who is serving 20 years in prison. The escape happened after the two attended a High Court hearing in Masvingo where Janyure is on trial for robbery and Masunda is a witness to the case. The two breached cell security before escaping through the prison perimeter fence.
Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services national spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Meya Khanyezi confirmed that there was an escape at Mutimurefu Prison but is yet to receive full details.
Janyure was convicted of murder, attempted murder, armed robbery and rape.
