Sierra Leone 2-3 Zimbabwe

HARARE – Marshall Munetsi inspired a dramatic comeback as Zimbabwe fought back from two goals down at half-time to beat Sierra Leone 3-2 on Thursday and make a winning start to their Africa Cup of Nations Group E qualification campaign.

The Wolves midfielder sparked the comeback with a 72nd-minute goal before Tawanda Chirewa equalised just four minutes later.

Munetsi then completed the turnaround in the 88th minute, scoring the winner to seal a remarkable victory for the Warriors.

The match was played at Stade Ben Ahmed El Abdi in Morocco after Sierra Leone were unable to host the game at home because they do not have a CAF-approved stadium for international matches.

It was coach Ramon Catala’s first match in charge for Zimbabwe, giving the Warriors an important confidence boost ahead of Monday’s clash against the Democratic Republic of Congo at the National Sports Stadium in Harare.
