d at Mucheke Stadium also yesterday while reigning champions CAPS United’s free fall continued yesterday when they were massacred 3-0 by a lively Black Rhinos in another league match at Gwanzura Stadium yesterday.
Rhinos dominated proceedings from start to finish and the result will certainly spark more problems in the CAPS family while across town at Rufaro, Dynamos won their third match on the trot when the mauled a confused Mwana Africa 3-1.
On Saturday, Buymore continued to sing the blues when they lost 0-1 to Hwange at Gwanzura Stadium while Monomotapa shot down Shooting Stars 1-0 at Rufaro Stadium on the same day.
Motor Action sunk Railstars further into murky waters with a 3-2 win over the Bulawayo side at Callies Sports Club on Saturday. In Kwekwe, Lancashire Steel drew 0-0 with Shabanie Mine.
If there was a football casualty department at Mpilo Hospital, a stone throw away from Barbourfields Stadium, it is safe to say it would be overflowing with Zimbabwe Saints supporters.
The thrill of regaining premiership status is fast giving way to a sickening realisation that the old Zimbabwe Saints, as they knew it, is gone. And on the evidence of Sunday’s display against rampaging old city enemies, Highlanders, the old Saints may soon be nothing more than a footnote in history.
Their defence overwhelmed, their midfield tame, and their strike force impotent, Saints surrendered to Highlanders with the most abject overall performance.
Highlanders midfield team – Honour Gombami, Vusa Nyoni and Johannes Ngodzo – were outstanding. Nyoni was on the score sheet, adding to goals by Highlanders skipper and shot stopper Tapuwa Kapini and leading scorer Ralph Matema.
At Rufaro Stadium, Dynamos staged a further demonstration that they have left football’s casualty department with a 3-1 win over Mwana Africa to go fourth on the league table.
Mwana Africa defender Thomas Svesve saw red, and Dynamos turned on the style with goals from Sebastian Mutizirwa, captain Tonderai Ndiraya and former AmaZulu gunman Gift Zvavanhu. Romeo Kabesha replied for Rhinos.
Champions CAPS United were gored 3-0 by Black Rhinos at Gwanzura on the same day Luke Masomere survived for another day after watching his Masvingo United post a controversial 2-1 win over Chapungu at Mucheke.
United, now under the tutelage of Zambian coach, Fordson Kabole, went down to Nesbert Saruchera’s men who scored through former Warriors midfielder Lazarus Muhoni and Albert Mbano.
Kabole summed up United’s performance far better than the press pack would have: “They were not marking. They were sleeping. A lot needs to be done.” – Sports reporters/ZimOnline
