We won’t play, say cricketers

SOUTH AFRICA - Brothers Andy and Grant Flower, who helped make Zimbabwe a force to reckoned with in international cricket, have ruled out a return to the game amid reports that Zimbabwe Cricket is 'desperate' to lure back some of the experienced players for the15-man World Cup squad.
"I walked aw

ay because of the state of affairs, and not much has changed,” said 38-year-old Andy, arguably Zimbabwe’s best-ever player, who was once ranked the top batsmen in the world. Andy fled in 2003 after staging (with bowler Henry Olonga) a black-armband protest to ‘mourn the death of democracy’ in the country.
Grant, two years younger, left in 2004 together with 13 other white players who rebelled against ZC over selection policy as well as the sacking of Heath Streak as captain.
“As Andy said, a lot needs to be done to save the game of cricket in Zimbabwe. We would love to help, but we can’t work under the present bosses,” Grant said.
Zimbabwe, fresh from a 3-1 ODI series defeat to Bangladesh this month, will face hosts West Indies, Pakistan and Ireland in the group stages of the World Cup. – Sports Reporter
