reports of senior members saying there is no option but to go back to the main MDC.
The faction is reported to have extensively debated its position and even Mutambara himself has admitted that there is need to find a way of working together with the main wing. However, their desire for an equal power sharing arrangement with the Tsvangirai group was turned down with the main wing reportedly saying “those who left the party and wish to come back are welcome”, implying that the only acceptable deal would be members of the splinter faction rejoining the main wing.
“It is quite a challenge because the majority of members, especially sitting MPs are aware of the likelihood of losing if we stand on our own,” said a senior Mutambara official. “It is true a number of them are considering swallowing their pride and defecting. I am aware of approaches having already been made to the main wing on that matter.”
Mutambara insisted his faction was strong and growing in popularity. “We wanted unity because that is what the people of Zimbabwe want and it was hoped we could be stronger to unseat Mugabe”.
