BULAWAYO – Nomadic former Highlanders forward, Zenzo Moyo, has signed a one-year contract with Botswana premiership side Botswana Meat Commission (BMC).
The former Warriors striker has not been training for close to four months now, after severing ties with Zimbabwe soccer giants Highlanders in June.
In an interview with CAJ News, Moyo confirmed the move.
“I have signed for BMC, a Botswana club. We are currently finalising one or two things before I move to Botswana,” said the heavily built striker.
BMC publicity manager Sonny Phiri confirmed in a telephone interview that Moyo had been training with the team since the beginning of October.
Hungry for success, BMC was inspired the their meat counterparts ECCO City Greens based in Francistown who are the reigning champions. And they are eager to also win major titles in the country despite being in the to flight-football for less than ten years.
“I can confirm that we have a done deal with Moyo. He has been with the team for past three weeks although he has not played as yet. His (work) papers are out.
“He was meant to make his debut in our game against Tafic two weeks ago but he was watching from the stands. He was not feeling well,” said Phiri.
With his experience and expertise, Moyo is expected to boost BMC’s firepower, which has been misfiring since the start of the season.
The team, who are the reigning Coca-Cola Challenge Cup champions, has pinned its hopes on him to sail them to the shores of success.
“If you have been following us closely, you must have seen that we were not clicking in front of goals. And during the Coke Cup we were winning the games through penalty shootouts. It is not healthy.
“A game should be won in the regulation time. We are also intending to compete in the CAF Confederations Cup. We need to have a strong squad in order for us to leave a mark on the continental scene, hence signing a player who has been there in Zenzo Moyo.”
Moyo was part of Highlanders’ championship-winning side in 2000 and 2001 before moving to Cyprus. He played for AEP Paphos before moving to Greece, where he had a short stint with Hilkadonia.
