2007 All Africa Games bronze medallist Brighton Tangata, as well as Collen Chanakira, Brian Kupara, Malvin Chomusora, Chamunorwa Mutandwa, Knowledge Marodza and Edmore Mutandwa, will be expected to bring honour to Zimbabwe when they face South Africa’s top kick-boxers.
Zimbabwe Kick-Boxing Association President Tony Kamangira, told The Zimbabwean he was confident the seven fighters would “not only get a chance of proving who they are, but they will get to improve their skills.”
Kamangira, who is also the national coach, was elected Vice-President of the African Confederation of Zone Six kick-boxing at last year’s edition of the All Africa Games, in Algeria.
According to Kamangira, the sport has received “overwhelming response” over the years despite the negative feeling that it promotes violence.
“Kick-boxing is one of the martial art sports, which is safe. It promotes self-empowerment and it improves physical fitness,” he said.
Vice-President (Technical) Evan Brown is also expected to travel by road together with the team, which will be back in the country on Monday.
