Missing officials family evicted

HARARE - The family of a senior Prison official missing from Harare Central Prison quarters has been evicted from the prison premises. The family has been accused of failing to co-operate with officials.

Four senior ZPS officers, Senior Assistant Commissioner Matunhiora, Senior Assistant Chisora and Superintendent Mutimbanyoka, came and evicted us last weekend. They said they were acting on directives from their employer. He had ordered them to vacate the premises because our father had was working against the service, said a family member.

The senior Prison official, identified as Chief Superintendent Philip Mutaramutswa, went missing last month after his name was linked to the anti-ZPS Commissioner flyers that hit Harare Prisons in June.
One of the people tasked to eliminate him later realized that he was our relative. He was the one who advised Mutaramutswa to flee. The guy told us that US$3000 was given to five men to carry out the special assignment, but did not tell us who really was behind it.

Chief Superintendent Mtaramutswa had been battling with the ZPS for a year over their failure to extend his service after 25 years of conduct. The organization cited incompetence as their reason for the rejection, but Mtaramutswa argued that he was being punished. In 2007 he allowed MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai to visit senior members of his party when they were detained at Harare Central Prison.
