The team comprising 19 members from 10 different countries have been in the country for a month long renovation project at a children’s ward at the provincial hospital. Handing over the project, the organisation’s Base Administrator, Pastor Elisha Nyandoro, said his organisation’s greatest desire was for the church to be completely involved in projects that benefit the community.
“When we came from South Africa last month our mission was to do a number of projects that benefit the community and when we landed in Gweru we realised that the provincial hospital was in greater need than all the other potential places that we had identified and we adopted a ward. The ward was the worst affected and we have renovated it,” he said. Gweru General Hospital Matron Annie-Bethel Gonzo appealed to other organisations to assist the hospital in all possible ways. “We are most grateful for what the organisation has done and we have hope other organisations and churches will find it in themselves to chip in and assist the hospital because there is a lot that still needs to be done at the hospital. If others also come in, the face of the hospital will be raised and that is beneficial to our patients. Even the working environment is improved that way,” said the matron.
Youth with a Mission renovated beds, cupboards, bathtubs and the floors. It also repainted the walls of the ward and of the nurses’ offices and bought new curtains for the ward.
