According to a senior police officer at Mabvuku Police Station, at least seven large, vicious dogs have been running amok in the area. Two have been shot so far.
The animals are usually spotted early in the morning, terrifying people on pathways on the open vlei and cemetery site near Circle Cement.
A special team has since been set up to track down the dogs with two having been shot so far and the hunt continues for the remainder, said the officer.
During the day, the dogs hide in the swampy undergrowth of the vlei.
There are concerns that there could be a female dog in the pack, which could lead to an increase in the number.
Many people use the vlei as a shorter route to Tafara, Chishawasha, Circle Cement or to their fields.
