The transfer window opened at the beginning of the month and clubs are busy bolstering their ranks with the acquisition of new players while at he same time discarding those they feel can no longer be effective enough to make meaningful contributions.
Kapini – who is the first choice goalkeeper at the club and one of the most experienced players in the team – has been in impressive form.
He has managed to keep a clean sheet in six of the last nine league matches, and has conceded fewer goals than a good number of the goalkeepers playing in the South African topflight. While his form has attracted the attention of other clubs, Platinum Stars manager Obed Legobathe, told The Zimbabwean On Sunday that the Warriors goalkeeper would remain in their books.
“He (Kapini) is not for sale. He has been doing well for the club and we have no reason to put him on the transfer market,” said Legobathe. “He has not requested for a transfer and while other clubs have enquired about his availability, we have always maintained that he is not for sale. As far as we are concerned, he is happy with us here and we are happy with his performance,” he added.
Kapini, who featured in Zimbabwe’s appearance at the 2004 and 2006 African Cup of Nations, is one of the senior players at Platinum Stars and featured in last weekend’s 1 – 1 draw against Vasco Da Gama. The Platinum Stars manager added that the club’s coach was likely to offload about seven players while enlisting the services of other players.
“At the end of the day, it is the coach who has the power to choose the players he wants to buy on the market because he is the one who will be responsible for his results,” said Legobathe.
