Dynamos, CAPS fight over Gwekwerere

evans_gwekwerereHARARE A tug of war has ensued between Dynamos and CAPS United over striker Evans Gwekwerere (Pictured) with DeMbare insisting the player is not going anywhere despite him having signed a two-year deal with United last Monday.

Dynamos secretary Oliver Manyau told The Zimbabwean on Sunday in an interview this week they were still running around to secure a package so that they would retain Gwekwerere and other players they need for the African Champions League. “We are working hard to retain him (Gwekwerere). We can not allow him to join our rivals CAPS United. As far as we are concerned he has not signed for any club. We have not released his clearance ,” said Manyau.

Club chairman Farai Munetsi also insisted they would not release Gwekwerere to CAPS United after they refused to release Clive Kawinga whom they wanted to sign. Dynamos, who are preparing to play in the African Champions League, have already lost goalkeeper Washington Arubi and winger Benjamin Marere to Division One side, Highfield United. Now Gwekwerere the clubs top scorer last season — is the latest high profile player to quit DeMbare and join their bitter rivals CAPS United.

Gwekwerere claims that the club owes him US$15,000 in outstanding signing-on fees and winning bonuses. He said: I have agreed terms with CAPS United and signed a contract. I am just waiting for my clearance from Dynamos. My contract with them ended on December 31 and I think I made a good decision. It is better for me to move because you cannot play football when you are not being paid. Football is my only source of livelihood.
