According to the 2011 PSL fixtures, Chauya Chikwata who were relegated at the end of the 2006 season bought the Eagles franchise to enable them to return to elite football. They had tried without success to gain promotion into the big boys party since they were relegated a good five years ago.
And they face a sterner test on their return as CAPS United are also eager to succeed after years of under achievement since the departure of dreadlocked former coach Charles Mhlauri. Newly appointed coach, Highlanders football legend Willard Khumalo, believes they won’t be there to make up the numbers to try and lay their hands on the coveted title.
“Some people are saying we came through the back door but I can assure you we have got players with ambition and we all want to win the title. Our aim is not to fight relegation. We were just recently appointed and we have had little time to prepare but we will be out to win,” said the former Warriors star. Zimbabwe Saints have on their books veterans including former Highlanders utility player Chipo Tsodzo, Danisa Phiri, Phillip Sithole and Jonathan Chikaponya among others. Champions Motor Action begin the defence of their title with a home tie against Madinda Ndlovus Black Mambas. Dynamos, the runners up last season, play Kiglon while Highlanders host Shabanie Mine at Barbourfields.
