One man and his bike

LONDON - A global race covering 18,000 miles would be daunting by plane or car, but Zimbabwean-born photographer Sean Conway is preparing to cover this incredible distance by bicycle, when he competes in the 2012 Global Bike Race.

The race, which will start in Greenwich on 18 February 2012 and end approximately five months later, will see elite members of the international cycling community race against each other in a battle to become the Guinness World Record holder for

fastest circumnavigation of the globe by bike.

To be in with a chance of beating the record, Sean and his fellow competitors will need to pedal at least 120 miles a day for 150 days, burning up to 10,000 calories each day – the equivalent of 18 large hamburgers.

Conway is now seeking corporate sponsorship from a UK-based organisation to help him cover the financial costs of entering the race.

As well as smashing the world record, he hopes to use the race to generate funds for a chosen charity and is inviting interested charities to get in touch with him via his website: www.CyclingTheEarth.co.uk
