This is despite the fact that the Yuna Yuna boys, as Masvingo FC is popularly known, are presently playing the game of their life. At their home ground Mucheke Stadium, the side has not registered a defeat since the beginning of the season. Masvingo over the weekend humbled beleagured Harare outfit Shooting Stars with a 2-0 scoreline.
On the PSL log standing as at May 23, the only PSL team in Masvingo province is on 5th position, on top of established title contenders like the Harare-based giants Dynamos. “Our focus this year is just to fight relegation and remain in the league next season,” said Masomere recently. He started off last year with Botswana premiership side Nontwane.
Masvingo FC, which is owned by not-so-successful city businessman Petros Mutema, boasts some brilliant players who can fight and win the league if they put all they have on that ambition. These include former Young Warriors right back Hardlife Mavundi and the Sinamayi brothers.
Impressive former Caps United duo of left-footed striker Tendai DJ Malaika Nyamadzawo and central defender Blessing Mazorodze are also Masvingo property. With 15 points, Masvingo are in position five. Having played nine games, Masomere s charges have won four games and drew on three outings, while losing out full points twice.
