Mujuru died on Tuesday morning in his house on the family's commercial farm in Beatrice.
He is alleged to have been accompanied by an uknown woman when he died.
The headline of the Second Edition of The Herald said; "Gen Mujuru Dies" and covered the full front page accompanied by a full colour photograph of General Mujuru wearing his ZNA official regalia before he retired.
Mujuru, known as Rex Nhongo during the days of the liberation war for Zimbabwe's Independence on April 18, 1980 was the husband of Joyce who was known as Joyce Teurai Ropa Nhongo during the liberation struggle.
The two (both military trained) met and married before Zimbabwe's Independence when they came home from Mozambique.
The ZRP has said it is "investigating the sudden death" because is suspects "foul play" in the sudden death.
Mujuru, a Zanu PF Politburo member, is among the very few Zanu PF big-wigs who did not have a driver to ferry him around in his luxury personal motor vehicle(s).
He was loved by virtually all members of the ZNA especially former Zanla war veterans who fought alongside him in Mozambique.
He will be remembered for his wit and topsy-turvy moods especially after consuming his favourite drink, Blue Label Scotch Whisky with colleagues.
The General sometimes had controversial political views about progress in Zimbabwe and is reliably understood to have ruffled the feathers of President Robert Mugabe, the Zanu PF President.
He was alleged by rivals to be the leader of a "Zanu PF faction" that wanted President Mugabe to "go and leave the leadership position to much younger individuals including his wife", currently one of Zimbabwe's two Vice Presidents.
The Mujurus have numerous business enterprises in commercial farming, gold mining, bricks industry, motor vehicle industry, long distance haulage trucks, and, most recently, in the lucrative diamond mining industry.
The two are survived by a daughter, Rudo, Chief Executive of Dande Holdings (Private) Limited (Dande) one of the Mujuru family empires.
Meanwhile hundreds of mianly former Zanla war veterans were seen toyi-toying around the capital city, Harare, singing revolutionary songs praising the late General Mujuru for his role in Zimbabwe's liberation struggle.
The ZRP which were armed simply looked on as the war veterans ran around First Street marching to Parliament Buildings in Zanu PF regalia.

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the currently silent Mugabe appointed, unelected Minister of ZANPF Defence and butcher of Matabeleland – Emmerson – . Your faction wins and may I say “Second time” lucky!! You have cleared the way forward and you can look forward to something you have fought and killed for – the Presidency of zanupf. All you need to do now is to keep your zanupf generals and troops deployed on the ground and across the country, beat the living daylights out of “suspected” MDC-T supporters (i.e. most of the nation) and win the country’s Presidential doing what you do best – bashing and killing innocent Zimbabweans.
Makorokoto Ngwenya!
