After meeting with youths from Nkulumane, Magwegwe North, Sizinda, and Emakhandeni, the National Youth Development Trust noted that the poor participation of women in elections was related to violence.
“A total of eight meetings were held, four of them with a specific focus on why females are not effectively participating in key national issues. These were held in Nkulumane, Magwegwe North, Sizinda, Emakhandeni. Parents were said to be playing a part in denying their girl children the chance to participate in governance issues as they are allegedly protecting them from disorderly youths who participate in politics,” said the Trust in its weekly update.
According to the Research and Advocacy Unit that conducted a fact-finding mission to investigate reports that Mugabe's Zanu (PF) youth militia was using rape as a political weapon against women: "The main issue for many women in Zimbabwe is politically motivated violence. And it is not just rape that we are talking about. We are
talking about beating and violent sexual assault of women, just because they vote for a party of their choice.”
