Patients and hospital sources at the centre told the Zimbabwean that the hospital has run out of money to buy food for admitted patients.
“I have transferred my son from the hospital to Mpilo in Bulawayo because there is no food at Gwanda hospital. My son who was involved in a car accident and had been admitted at the hospital for the past two weeks told me that the situation has worsened during the last few days,” said Gift Ncube.
Another patient, Roseline Mlambo said she was prematurely discharged from the hospital on Friday last week because of the food crisis.
“The hospital’s diet has been getting poorer and poorer every day. At times patients were served with Sadza and cabbages without cooking oil. The food was healthy at all for a patient like me who is nursing an operation,” she said.
The minister of Health and Child Welfare, Dr Henry Madzorere was not answering his mobile phone.
