I will bring technical colleges, industry, jobs to Murewa: Mutize

MDC-T Parliamentary Candidate for Murewa North, Golden Mutize (GM), says if he wins in the coming election, he will bring technical colleges and industry to Murewa Centre. Despite narrowly losing previous elections to his Zanu (PF) rivals, he told our Staff Reporter (SR) that this time around he will make it and bring development to the constituency.

S.R. Why do you still want to be MDC-T Parliamentary candidate for Murewa North after losing previous elections to your rivals?

G.M. I have always worked in the interests of the people as expected by the electorate. Never have I lost an election before, but my votes were stolen by Zanu (PF).

My rival from Zanu (PF) resorted to last minute vote buying, after he realised that he was bound to lose the election. I will prove my position if the coming elections are held in a free and fair environment.

S.R. Why does MDC make you the parliamentary candidate of choice, of all the people?

G.M. Despite non availability of resources, I have continued working for the party using family coffers. People realise that I can go to any length, just for the love of the party and democracy. So, naturally I am the ideal candidate.

Victims of violence, the poor and the sick continue to benefit from my goodwill. My family resources are at the disposal of needy members of the community. I am a true democrat who will never waive from my principles.

S.R. What motivated you to join politics?

G.M. I have always loved justice in all aspects of life, since my childhood. There was visible massive corruption in my constituency and the country at large. This prompted me to join politics and help put things in order.

S.R. Of all the political parties, why did you join MDC?

G.M. MDC was the only viable choice. The party ideology and composition of membership made it the only weapon lethal enough to fight corruption and oppression created by Zanu (PF). MDC also has what it takes to rebuild the nation which was destroyed by Zanu (PF).

S.R. What economic benefits will you bring to the constituency if you win?

G.M. Top of my priority list will be bringing quality tertiary education to Murewa. This will be by way of technical colleges and eventually a university. I will also attract industry to the area.

Murewa is the central business centre and crossing point for highly productive surrounding rural areas, such as Mutoko, Mudzi and Nyamapanda, which produce huge quantities of mangos, tomatoes, mushrooms, water-melons and pumpkins and other farm produce. It would be ideal if the bulk of the produce is processed at industries which would be located here. That would create the much-needed job opportunities for locals.

Improved water reticulation will be a top priority. The road network around villages will receive a major face-lift. Major dust roads will be tarred to help make the areas accessible.

There are no good reasons for roads such as the one linking Macheke with Murewa to still be without tar 32 years after independence.

Murewa lags behind regarding the rural electrification programme. The area will be given its fair share of the exercise, if I get into office. Murewa dam has the capacity to drive large-scale irrigation schemes. It continues to be underutilised.

Hospital facilities will also be given attention. How can a serious Member of Parliament preside over a constituency whose major hospital lacks x-ray equipment and other basics?

S.R. What do you make of the GNU and the constitution-making process?

G.M. The GNU would be likened with the folk story ‘Juzi ra Tirai’ (jersey woven by Tirai). While MDC is seriously weaving one end of the jersey, Zanu (PF) is busy undoing the other end. No progress will be registered out of such a relationship. As for the constitution, the new draft is a better devil than the amended Lancaster House one. In the interest of progress we should adopt it.

S.R. How would you rate MDC’s chances of winning the elections?

G.M. It is clear to everyone that while MDC was growing, Zanu (PF) continued to lose popularity. In fact, there is no more Zanu (PF) to talk about. What is left of the Mugabe-led party is just a pocket of die-hard elements with no relevance. Elections are a mere formality to hand over power to MDC.

S.R. Is MDC well constituted to bring about meaningful change?

G.M. MDC will remove corruption. This is underscored by the ruthless way the party has dealt with its elected corrupt public officials. The party has investor friendly policies which will help bring about reindustrialisation of the economy. This will build investor confidence. Employment creation will be a bonus and icing on the cake.

S.R. Do you think the country is ready for March 2013 elections?

G.M. No. Prescribed reforms have not been fully implemented. Violence continues to be witnessed in some parts of the country. Zanu (PF) has also activated its vote buying machinery, through partisan handouts such as farm inputs and food relief.

S.R. You are a documented victim of political violence. How do you think perpetrators of violence should be treated in view of national healing?

G.M. There must be justice before any attempts are made to heal the nation. Perpetrators of justice must be brought to justice if the nation has to move forward. Letting perpetrators of violence go scot-free, will be tantamount to legitimising the illegitimate.

S.R. Who is Golden Mutize?

G.M. I was born on 12 December 1966 at Murewa Hospital. I studied for a Bachelar of Adminstration Education at The University of Zimbabwe and later worked in various capacities at a number of institutions. Driven by the entrepreneurship instinct, I abandoned full time employment and opened family business enterprises. Presently, I run a number of successful butcheries, grocery shops and a car servicing garage at Murewa Centre.
