Delegates at the December conference came up with a number of resolutions including a request to President Robert Mugabe to dissolve parliament and call for elections if the constitution failed to come into being by Christmas 2012.
Christmas came and passed without Zanu (PF) raising a finger to call Mugabe to dissolve parliament as resolved. Mugabe himself was reportedly on leave in an unidentified Asian country.
“When we pass resolutions we expect them to be implemented accordingly. Unfortunately, not all resolutions materialise. Our Gweru resolutions are no exception,” Zanu (PF) spokesperson, Rugare Gumbo, told The Zimbabwean.
MDC-T spokesperson, Douglas Mwonzora, described the Zanu (PF) resolution to ask Mugabe to dissolve parliament as farfetched. Mwonzora said the GNU remained guided by the GPA and no shut cuts would be taken regarding ending its life and the holding of elections.
“No individual can dissolve parliament and call for elections. Whatever we do will be as prescribed by the GPA,” said Mwonzora. He said the constitution had to be in place first before talking about elections.
MDC-T President, Morgan Tsvangirai, has vowed not to be part of an election whose outcome would not be reflective of the will of the people.
