Throughout last year, Ncube's party successively hosted weekend rallies in the three Matabeleland provinces and was viewed by observers as the strongest rival to the MDC-T.

"We have been experiencing large numbers of people turning in for our rallies, despite Ncube and his group moving around trying to mislead people,” said Moyo.

“People realise that MDC-N is a Zanu (PF) project out to split the vote. Recently we welcomed more than 300 members from MDC-N who came with a disgruntled former Director of Elections in that party in Matabeleland South. They cited dictatorship as the order of the day in the Welshman-led party," he added.

"We are also witnessing a great number of people who will be voting for the first time. They are hungry for change and angry that the indigenisation programme is not helping them at all, but only a few children of influential Zanu (PF) war vets. Everyone in the regions sings Tsvangirai simudza meremere song," added a confident Njemnyama.

For the past two years MDC-T Bulawayo province has been hard-hit by a wave of power struggles that have given an avenue to Ncube's MDC to gain political mileage.

Bulawayo provincial chairperson Gorden Moyo’s his rise to power was tainted by violent clashes and political skulduggery against arch-rival Matson Hlalo in last year's emotive leadership race.

Outspoken Bulawayo legislator Tabitha Khumalo was axed as deputy national spokesperson p in July amid media reports of rising tensions with Deputy Prime Minister Thokozani Khupe.
