Moyo still wanted at Dikwena

Platinum Stars said this week that Zimbabwean defender Obert Moyo was still in the club’s plans, although he has spent much of the current campaign on the sidelines.

The former Hwange and Caps United defender has watched from the bench as the Rustenburg side challenges for a maiden league title.

“Obert is still part of the coach’s plans,” said club spokesman, Aubrey Molobi. “He is a quality player and the fact that he has not been playing should not overshadow that. Our defence has done tremendously well this season. The guys have done well and it would be difficult for any coach to change a winning combination.”

Stars have been the surprise package of the season. With 10 games left to play, Dikwena sat third on the 16-team log, behind Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

Moyo, who competes with 10 other defenders for a berth, played a mere three out of 20 league games. “His chance will come. He has been doing well in practice and is not keeping his head down. We have 34 players here and the competition for places is intense. It is up to the coach to pick a winning combination,” Molobi said.

The 27-year-old has previously starred for Premiership rookies, University of Pretoria, and famously captained them to final of the 2009 Nedbank Cup Final when they were still campaigning in the first division.
