
The 12-year-old died in a suspected Zanu (PF) arson attack in Headlands.
“Christpower never knew peace,” Youth Assembly leader, Giyani Dube, said at the podium. “We as youth have to register to vote so that his spirit rests in peace. We need to unite and fight to protect our lives and rights against Zanu (PF),” said Dube.
Thembi Sibanda, leader of the Provincial Women’s Assembly, said, “As a mother, it’s hard to lose a child in such a manner. We are mobilising every woman in Zimbabwe to expose brutality against our children. Enough is enough and now is the time to end that madness.”
Deputy Provincial Youth leader, Ulete Juma called for calm among party members.
“Zanu (PF) wants war, but we don’t want it. Let’s all try to protect our families through peaceful means,” she said.
Johannesburg District Deputy secretary, Abel Dube, through his poem ‘Zimbabweans let us remember him forever’, challenged MDCT-T leaders to honour the late Maisiri by making 25 February a national holiday when they win elections.
Christpower was the son of Shepherd Maisiri, an aspiring Member of Parliament for Headlands and MDC-T Deputy Organising Secretary for the district.
“I am not at peace in this community. My family has been attacked several times and my wife was raped twice,” said Shepherd.
MDC-T Secretary General, Tendai Biti, has publicly accused Zanu (PF) Secretary for Administration, Didymus Mutasa, of being responsible for Christpower Maisiri’s death. Mutasa is the Member of Parliament for Headlands.
Police Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba, said there was no evidence of foul play.
