Ndlovu on fire in Japan

Former Zimbabwe senior men’s national volleyball team captain, Murray Pole Ndlovu, is on fire in Japan. The utility player, who joined Japanese club, Oita Miyoshi Weisse last year, recently told The Zimbabwean that he was satisfied with his progress in the Asian country.

He has played every match for the crack outfit. “The sport is professionally run here and I am enjoying being part of this. The players are united and the technical team and management are very supportive of us,” said the 28-year-old player.

“I wish authorities and clubs back home could emulate this and rise up the scales in volleyball. I am also impressed by the lifestyle here and enjoying both my game and life off the pitch.”

Ndlovu is also in the process of gathering management skills that he hopes to implement in Zimbabwe, where he hopes to further develop the sport that still lags behind soccer, cricket, tennis, rugby and athletics in terms of both popularity and rewards.

“I am learning new things and gaining experience that I will hopefully use to develop grassroots support for the game back home. I hope other players playing abroad will choose to be part of such initiatives so that we grow as a nation,” he said.

Ndlovu, currently doing distant learning in Sports Management at the University of Johannesburg, started his volleyball career with Harare-based Junior Stars at the age of 12.

He rose through their ranks and featured for their senior team four years later and later represented the country’s junior volleyball team. He graduated to the senior team at 19. His talent took him to Botswana’s Kutlwano Volleyball club in 2007, but he played there for only two years before he was lured to South Africa’s Cigma volleyball club in 2009.
