That doesn't work more and more people will move with their children into other countries. – Kusasa Dzovani
no – Phiri James Gordon
imo to address that, we need to know if many have actually grasped the mother tongue – @cee_divine
only if we import words from English like how the English imported words from Latin, Greek, e.t.c – @Lindelwe_Ncube
True, l also think continuing with the status quo is also OK because of lack of $$$. Africa has so many languages, each country has more than 4 languages, so catering to all ethnic groups will have to be taken into consideration. At the rate we are going, changing our literature from English to a Zim language is It is the least of our problems, to me it's like wanting to change the name of VicFa. Most of us can't even speak the language fluently, so it's rather a difficult endeavor – @QueenNosipho
could this signal the death of the mother tongue? – @MosiOaTunya
yes, some want their kids to speak English l know- @DanielMutendi
advocates for local languages – @cee_divine
Its not feasible, bcoz our local languages, unlike English, are so rigid that they do not adopt new words. Conservative language is an impediment to learning in this world of technology. – Gain Sibanda
it's taking the easy path a lot of the times that makes us content with mediocrity – @DanielMutendi
Its a problem when mother tongue is viewed as inferior or backward… both needed – @Mambokadzi
Think we can develop to th level of programming software in Shona? – @cmlimited
our (Africa) educational system fights the mother tongue brutally – @iglinson
Y is it a must 4 students 2 credit english n otherwise 4 d mother tongue? – @iglinson
it takes deep introspection 4 one to notice that they r mentally colonized – @DanielMutendi
As more r in the diaspora there is demand for tools to teach mother tounge 2 kids – @Mambokadzi
The answer depends on which lang u speak 2 ur kids, guys. @seluleme teaches me Ndebele w/ this policy in mind – @KozlovAndy
don't try new things plz . we ar tired of failed things – Blessing Nyakusauka

Madam Blessing Nyakusauka – yours is the only comment that makes any sense in a land where clans and colours are only nowadays comfortable living with one another! Well said. There are 12 different tribes in Zimbabwe speaking 12 different languages and I think whoever came up with this questionable statement is just deviating from the real issues at hand – because even the Chinese are fluent in Shona now. We need to discuss instead issues like Health and Education for one and all – especially for those who can no longer afford it because their jobs in which they are no longer employed used to subsidize their medical aid. Husbands and wives have a secret way of communicating so that the kids dont understand. And, all teenagers have their own way of communicating so that their parents dont understand them either. All children learn the mother tongue in their homes before they even get to nursery school and Shona, Sindebele and English is taught in all schools throughout Zimbabwe. This is plain window dressing from the real issues that confront our young today.
If anything we should all be learning Mandarin and Arabic from those in our midst cos the Islamic Fundamentalists permeating East Africa will soon be on our doorstep also.
anyone did agreed or not but truth is that English is now international language and globally recommended language .world is now demanding this for communication all over the world that is why English is need of time.
