Eight win $500 man of the match prize

Eight players from different Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clubs are smiling all the way after winning $500 each for being named man of the match in the first round of the Mbada Diamonds Cup.

The money is dished out in cash soon after the game and Eric Mudzingwa of Highlanders, Tendai Somanja of Caps United, Ronald Chitiyo of Monomotapa, Ali Sadiki of FC Platinum, Partson Jaure of Dynamos, Pervington Zimunya of Shabanie Mine, Proper and Matizanadzo of Buffaloes and Sydney Linyama of Chicken Inn, are the first man of the match award winners for this year’s tournament.

This means the eight players took home $600 from 90 minutes as there is also a $100 appearance fee for the 18 players the coach picks up for the game.

The man of the match is selected by a group of sports reporters who are present at the matches in question.

The man of the match award is for both teams as evidenced by the fact that while seven of the winners came from the teams that won their matches, Linyama from Chicken was chosen, despite his team having lost.

Mbada Diamonds Corporate Services Executive, George Manyaya, says they are offering the individual prize money in order to encourage individual brilliance in the Zimbabwean game.

On top of the man of the match prize, Manyaya says they are also offering $1 500 for the player of the tournament, $1000 for the goalkeeper of the tournament and the same for the top goalscorer.

The Mbada Diamonds Cup runs from September and ends with the final which is pencilled for the National Sports Stadium on November 24.
