Rugby Bulls fire warning shots

Newly-promoted local rugby outfit, Zvishavane Bulls, recently proved they will not be push-overs when the national league begins. The team was promoted after they sailed past Bulawayo’s Busters, in the Midlands-Matabeleland League play-offs late last year.

The impressive side, which took part in a six team invitational tournament over the weekend, shrugged off a stiff challenge from old league horses like Bulawayo’s Old Miltonians, Western Panthers, Matabeleland Warriors and Gweru Sports Club to reach the finals. They eventually lost 13-15 to Panthers, but not before they had sent waves on what could be in store for the season ahead.

“Preparations for this season are on course and our performance should be of comfort to all rugby fans in Zvishavane, where top flight rugby action returns after a very long time,” said coach Darlington Majoni. “We are in the league to win it. We are not anyone’s bridesmaids.”

Bulls chairperson, Ganizani Ganizani, said the club was about to wrap up its 2013 squad, following an overwhelming response from experienced players interested in joining.
