The former Warriors strikers said working together would bring the desired results, as they understood each other well from the days when they played together in the national team.

Mugeyi, who featured for the Warriors alongside Mwaruwari, told The Zimbabwean that it was his close relationship with the former Manchester City striker that helped him to lure the former Warriors captain to the Cape Town-based side Chippa.

“I have always had a great relationship with him and it was therefore, not difficult for me to bring him into the side,” said Mugeyi. “We share many similar ideas about the game and the way we see football is quite similar. Our understanding about tactics and feeling for football is are all not different and I am very happy to have such quality like him in the team.”

Despite indications to the contrary, Mugeyi was still adamant that the Chilli Boys would survive the drop at the end of the current season.

“Our club is currently playing good football, and we are definitely urging closer to winning more games and avoid the relegation. Benji has also provided the much-needed motivation and experience that will give us more staying and fighting power as we approach the end of the season.”

Mwaruwari said he was learning a lot from Mugeyi whom he regards as a brother.

“I always see a blood brother in Mugeyi who, since our playing days, has been one of my role models. He was already an established player then and I learnt quite a lot from working with him in the national team,” said The Undertaker.

“Football is all about learning and he’s certainly making sure we learn new ways of winning during training. We all want to play for him because he is a very good coach who knows how to work with his players. If you play good football, you’ll definitely be closer to winning more games. That’s where we are and my relationship with the coach makes that even easier. If all the players follow his philosophy, we’ll definitely become a great side – a difficult and strong side to beat and a competitive one.”

With nine games to go, the Chilli Boys are currently sitting at the bottom of the log, with 16 points from 21 games.
