Chivandire happy despite the loss

St Georges Under-16 rugby team head coach, Brighton Chivandire, has described the annual Cottco Rugby Festival currently underway at Harare’s Prince Edward School as a great platform to prepare his boys for the coming season.

“It is good for us to be as competitive as we can because this is a yardstick to see where we are ahead of the season. The boys love playing the game at this stage because they want to show people their talent, what they are good at,” he said.

“The beauty of Cottco (rugby festival) for us coaches is that we get to watch our boys play. They play three games in five days and it just gives us time to see our strengths and weaknesses. So after this week we will be correcting our mistakes and adopting what worked for us.”

Chivandire’s side lost to Mbare Academy 20-24 today and he has accepted the result as a learning curve for his boys. Their next assignment is against Eaglesvale on Thursday.

Chivandire, the national junior rugby team coach who has been victorious with the Prince Edward Tigers in previous years says he is enjoying coaching the younger side at Georges.

“Coaching the Under-16 is not much different from coaching the senior team. There are only little technical differences, but it is really an exciting age to coach. It is satisfying to me as a coach to see them learning a lot,” Chivandire.
