“We have received a number of offers from both local and continental clubs regarding the player’s services, which is not quite surprising considering the form Malajila displayed during the just-ended season,” said Maritzburg United spokesman, Younous Kadodia. “He finished with 11 goals, just two behind the league’s top scorer, Katlego Mashego of Moroka Swallows, and has put himself up there among the most sought-after players,” he said.
The last of those goals was a stoppage time screamer in his side’s 3-2 win over former champions Orlando Pirates, which could be his last for the club. “While he is an asset to this club, we will not hold on to him should we get the right offer, but we will not sell him at any price below his value. A decision will be made next week on the offers that we have received for the player.”
Kadodia could not shed light on clubs interested in the services of the former Chapungu, Highlanders and Dynamos striker, who also previously played in Libya. Locally, perennial big-spenders, Mamelodi Sundowns and Pirates were keen admirers.
Malajila joined United in the second half of 2012 on a three-year contract. Kadodia also heaped praise on Malajila’s countryman and fellow striker, Terrence Mandaza, for his contribution during the just-ended season. Mandaza was coach Ernst Midderndorp’s ‘super-substitute’ and weighed in with five goals.
“While all the spotlight has been on Malajila, Mandaza made a significant contribution this season. He gave it his all every time he was given a run. We have always had belief in him since we tried signing him when he was still in Botswana, but Platinum Stars beat us to his signature. I believe his best is still to come and we will see his full potential next season.”
