HASCA to host selection chess tourney

Harare schools chess association will be running a selection tourney on the 7th of February at Churchill school. The selection to be done in the following age groups:under 13,15 and 17 both boys and girls.

This will be a selection to come up with a provincial chess team to represent Harare in the in the national scholars chess championships which will select a junior national team to go to Thailand for the world schools individual chess championships in May this year. Kudakwashe Zimbowa will be the main player to beat so is Alpha Chaendera of Prince Edward school.

Meanwhile in a tournament held at Hallingbury Primary school boys under 13 open section Charlton Karomo of Mupfurudzi Primary school in Mt. Darwin was the surprise winner in this category defeating the tournament favourite B. Paratema of Avondale Primary school in the last round of the five round swiss tourney which was run by FA Gumbe.

Refiloe Mudodo was second on butcholtz and Rumbidzai Mawire of Avondale followed as well as Liam Kambayiwa of Tomlison Primary school and Bollard Paratema finished the top five in this star-studded field.
