Double Round Chess fixtures this Weekend

Harare Schools Chess Association hosts a double round at the Dominican Convent on the 16th of June. The defending Champions Mufakose 2 High school are doing very well in the league this year again and they are poised to defend the title if all goes well.

They defeated the former Champions Goromonzi and Mabvuku in some tightly contested fixtures. Harare High school also defeated St.Ignatius College whitewashing them in the process. Mufakose 2 has been doing very well in the past tournaments as well. They won the Dominican Convent chess festival followed by Harare High School and Mabvuku high school who were tied on the second position and separated on Bucholtz. This tournament was very thrilling as it showcased some of the Province’s best players as well as the country’s best players.

Farai Hamandishe of Mufakose 2 high school lost to Luckson Gavaza of Highfield high 1 school. Luckson Gavaza was the best player on board one and he won a tablet for his best performance as the best board one player. In the girl’s section Isabel Masawi won the best board one player and in the process, she won a tablet as well as a medal for outwitting her counterparts. In her final tournament of the year as she sits for her final upper sixth exams this November.

So we expect the players of all the schools in the chess league from division one to division five to turn up for the double round fixtures at the Dominican Convent. Games start at 0800 hours and finish at 1400hours. We expect fireworks and eruptions on the checkered boards as the players face each other this weekend. Some primary school players will be playing at Avonlea Primary school in a chess tournament. Indeed it will be a weekend of chess. A chess fiesta as they play to get the best players from their respective schools will be intending to outwit their counterparts.
