Financial constraints strangle Kambuzuma United

In marking yet another sad chapter for a former Premiership outfit following the demise of Amazulu, the Northern Region Assembly majority voted that Kambuzuma be booted out and the league will remain with 19 teams until the end of the season.
At a meeting at Alex Sports Club on Saturday, the m

ajority of clubs also agreed that the results from the 13 matches Kambuzuma had played be scrapped.
Only Black Mambas openly stood against the scrapping of points and instead wanted more efforts to be made to save Kambuzuma from total collapse.
Kambuzuma failed to fulfill three consecutive league matches in May citing the withdrawal of their sponsors. They then asked to be suspended.
The other 19 clubs and chairmen of the three affiliates — Harare, Mashonaland West and Mashonaland Central — were represented while Kambuzuma were booted out in absentia.
“Kambuzuma have been expelled from the league and we will continue with 19 clubs. No one will be invited to fill in the slot. All their results have been deducted from the other teams and matches made irrelevant,” said Northern Region secretary Sween Mushonga.
Six teams will still be relegated from the league at the end of this season so that the champions from Harare North and South, Mashonaland West A and B and Mashonaland Central A and B Division Two Leagues are accommodated. Kambuzuma will still not be replaced next season.
“There will be 19 teams in the 2007 season and seven will be relegated while six are coming in. Hopefully the aim is to reduce the number of teams to 18 in 2008 as this will help clubs to cut costs,” said Mushonga.
The Northern Region leadership also conceded to the clubs that they had all but failed to attract any sponsorship for this season, although the clubs are set to get a kit each from some of their contributions that had been invested.
Northern Region board member for finance Gilbert Saika also presented his financial report for the first half of the season which was adopted. The report revealed that there was about $2 billion in the account, which would be invested.
However, Eiffel Flats chairman Dexter Nduna said he was not amused that the financial report went through although the clubs were given the report during the meeting.
“In normal and professional set-ups we should have received the financial report at least a week before the meeting so that we will debate on the figures from an informed point during the meeting. The money is still a small amount for anyone to raise any eyebrows but in future we should be getting the reports in advance,” said Nduna.
He also complained to the Assembly on the state of Chaminuka in Kariba and Chikangwe in Karoi.
The Assembly agreed in principle that Turnall should be playing in the Eastern Region Division One next season while Darryn T will be accommodated on their slot.
While a solution came for Darryn T, Watford director Stephen Damuputirayi remains unhappy that the Assembly did not discuss his team’s status on Saturday.
