LONDON - Reading, playing their first top-flight match, made a dream start to life in the Premier League with a 3-2 home win over Middlesbrough after overturning a two-goal deficit. Substitute Leroy Lita grabbed the winner.

nd Watford, conceded crucial and controversial penalties. Sheffield United scored first in a 1-1 home draw with Liverpool, while Watford lost 2-1 at Everton.
Wayne Rooney was on target twice as Manchester United crushed visitors Fulham 5-1, champions Chelsea won 3-0 at home to Manchester City and Arsenal’s first match in their new Emirates Stadium ended 1-1 with Martin O’Neill’s Aston Villa. Zimbabwe striker Benjani Mwaruwari set up Portsmouth’s opener in a 3-0 home romp against Blackburn, Nigerian substitute Kanu scoring with two headers on his debut.
Sunderland lost again, 3-1 at Southend, to make it four straight defeats in the Championship. Port Vale and Nottingham Forest head League One with 100 per cent records and Swindon, under new manager Dennis Wise, lead League Two with four successive victories.
The recalled Kris Boyd struck twice in Rangers’ 2-0 home win over Hearts in the Scottish Premier. Celtic were held 1-1 at Inverness.
Wayne Rooney and Paul Scholes are suspended for Manchester United’s match at Watford this weekend. Chelsea travel to Blackburn.
